Noel Neill and Kirk Alyn in Superman (1978)

Movie trivia, facts, odds, ends, etc... - Noel Neill and Kirk Alyn in Superman (1978)

This was one of the first cameos I was aware of as a kid. Noel Neil played Lois Lane in Superman serials in the late 40s and on "The Adventures of Superman" TV series in the 1950s. In the 1978 film she plays the mother of the little girl who points out Clark Kent as he runs past their speeding train. In the extended version of the film Neill addresses the little girl as Lois, indicating that the little girl is Lois Lane. Neill also appeared in the 2006 "Superman Returns" feature playing the dying elderly wife of Kevin Spacey's Lex Luthor. At the time of this posting Neill is still with us at the age of 93. What another redditor informed me of is also that Kirk Alyn is the father sitting across from Lois. He was the first actor to play Superman on the big screen in two serials, one in 1948 and one in 1950. Noel Neill played opposite George Reeves on the TV series that followed.

Steven Spielberg in The Blues Brothers Movie (1980)

Movie trivia, facts, odds, ends, etc... - Steven Spielberg in The Blues Brothers Movie (1980)

Another of the first cameos I noticed as a child. Yes, I saw Blues Brothers in 1980 and no it was not appropriate for an 11 year old, but as a kid that read Famous Monsters magazine I knew what Spielberg looked like and got a kick out of instantly recognizing the director of CE3K, Jaws and 1941. Of course there are a number of cameos in this film, but this one leads us to another Spielberg on camera appearance...

Movie trivia, facts, odds, ends, etc... - Steven Spielberg and Jerry Goldsmith in Gremlins (1984)

In this scene from Gremlins you see Spielberg ride past Hoyt Axton (on the phone) while just behind Axton is an oddly dressed Jerry Goldsmith, the Oscar-winning composer of The Omen and numerous other films. On and that's also the time machine from The Time Machine (1960) in the background on the right. (http://cinefantastiqueonline.com/wp-content/uploads/time-machine-taylor.png) Gremlins is filled with easter eggs, something director Joe Dante is well-known for. Other Gremlins goodies include...

Movie trivia, facts, odds, ends, etc... - Jeff Garlin as the voice of The Captain in Wall-E (2008)

Garlin is now a semi-regular in the Pixar community. But his voice work in this one is really exceptional. He's really the lone human being character in the film, apart from the unusual Fred WIllard live-action appearance which is for me an aggravating inconsistency in an otherwise great film.

Okay this one's really a stretch and may just be for me. Now known as the host of "Comedy Bang Bang" on IFC and the popular podcast of the same name, in 2002 Aukerman played a younger version of Nigel (Michael Caine)....its really a body double performance as the character steps away from his car before it explodes. I dig Comedy Bang Bang (Bing Bong).
